Guerilla Milonga
Milonga "Rodante" - Our Guerilla or "Hit and Run" Milonga
Sunday, November 7, 4:00 p.m. - 7 p.m.
For our "rolling" or "guerilla" milonga we will board a charter bus at the hotel and visit four or five Albuquerque landmarks and dance for half and hour or so at each. This event is a great way to get to know Albuquerque and to present tango to the public.
Beginner's Package
Throughout the country tango festivals have a reputation of being difficult or unwelcoming of beginning dancers. This is largely due to the high level of navigation skill, floor craft, and floor awareness required for dancing in crowded conditions, surrounded by expert dancers.
The Albuquerque Tango Festival welcomes beginners and absolute (never danced tango before) beginners and is offering a package include and cater to them. This package consists of:
- Two beginner’s group classes
- Attendance at the beginner’s milonga
- Attendance at the Alex Krebs guided practica
This package is a great way for those new to tango to get the most possible out of the festival.
Beginners not able to take advantage of the Beginner’s Package may still participate in the individual beginner level classes on Saturday.
For those dancers who have been dancing longer than a year or so, but who may have not yet perfected their floor-craft, navigation, and etiquette skills to a level required for a national festival, we invite you to attend every milonga and to dance on the smaller, overflow floor provided.
For all dancers, please make sure that you read and understand the principles of floor craft.
Apparel Exchange
Modeled after a ski-swap, the tango apparel exchange is a great way to dispose of your gently-used, no-longer-needed, tango shoes, dresses, etc. If you are looking for bargains on used tango apparel, don’t miss the exchange.
How it Works
Intake and pricing
Intake for all garments and shoes will be at our registration desk. Intake hours will be Friday from 1-5, and Saturday from 11:00-2:00. Our intake specialist will take your items and make pricing suggestions.
Fee
We will display your items at the Apparel Exchange on Saturday, and if they sell, remit the proceeds to you minus a fee of 25% of the selling price.
There is no fee for any items not sold.
Cake at Every Milonga!
Hotels typically exclude the importation of any outside food or beverage into their premises. However, I have negotiated an exemption which will allow us to provide free, specially themed, fresh-baked cake at every milonga. After all, we can't expect to dance the night away without fuel.
Tango Rapper Momo Smitt
One of our own, tango rapper Momo Smitt of Portland will offer a performance toward the end of the Alternative Milonga on Saturday. If you've never heard Momo rap, he's incredible. His lyrics recount the wonder, awe, terror, and heartache of entry into the tango world. And, many of his pieces are totally danceable. Momo's raps are sweet, fun, and singular.
