Albuquerque Tango Festival

Albuquerque Tango Scene

Tango is flourishing in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Tangueros and tangueras living here are able to dance tango nearly every night of the week (twice a night on some evenings) at a wonderful variety of indoor, outdoor, and public venues.

Our community has depth, owing to the relatively long time that tango has been taught here and in Santa Fe, and to the early influence of a handful of Buenos-Aires-based instructors who began traveling here regularly in the early 1990s.

It is friendly in that, for the most part, we have avoided the factional divisions and disharmony that has infected some communities. Students of all teachers generally dance together at all events, and there is a great deal of courtesy and accommodation among the various teachers and their groups in coordinating events. You will find our tango community to be open, welcoming, and friendly. You may want to consider coming early or staying after the festival and enjoying some of our milongas.
